- Abstract
- A map showing the intersection of mining interests, potential salmon habitat, and glacier recession in Northwest BC. This map includes glacier outlines derived by Bevington et al. (2022) (shown in 5-year increments since 1985) and the glacier outlines used in the assessment by Bolch et al. (2010), comprising the BC TRIM/Freshwater Atlas (FWA) glacier outlines from the 1980s and Randolph Glacier Inventory (RGI) glacier outlines predominately from 2005). The FWA/TRIM glacier outlines were derived from aerial photography between the early-1970s and late-1980s and are often assigned the year 1985.Discrepancies between the Bevington et al. (2022) glacier outlines and those used by Bolch et al. (2010) occur where the Bevington et al. methodology underestimates debris-covered ice, areas with proglacial lakes, and excludes very small (<1 km2) glaciers, which could be construed as glaciers disappearing or appearing when compared with the FWA/TRIM and RGI glacier outlines.
