GeoNodeFeatureCatalogue Generic Feature Catalogue Generic Feature Catalogue 1.0 2016-01-11 Organization Name pointOfContact geonode:priority_big_tree_og <p>This layer is a subset of the <a href="../skeenamaps_docker_data:geonode:big_tree_og">Big-treed Old Growth</a> layer and shows the big-treed old growth in northwestern BC at highest priority for deferral, defined as the greater of the biggest remaining old forest up to 3% of the forested area or up to 5% of the naturally expected amount of old forest for ecosystems at lower risk, and 7%, 10% or 30% of expected for ecosystems at higher risk. Targets for each ecosystem were varied based on finer-scale ecological risk. In cases where big-treed ecosystems have less than 10% of the historic distribution of old growth, the biggest older mature forest was included to reach the target amount, if possible. Ecosystems are at high risk where old growth covers less than 30% of the expected level of the historic distribution within a BEC subzone/variant.
